Description

Traditionally, Principia's reunion classes have found great joy in making significant donations that support and provide for expansion, growth, and renewal. In anticipation of our 50th Reunion in the fall of 2021, members of the Reunion Gift Committee for the Upper School Classes of 1971 and 1972 discussed current needs with the School's leadership and participated in a virtual walk-through of the new Simon Field House, named in honor of Willy K. Simon.

Looking at that space, we couldn't stop thinking about Mr. Simon's gentle grace, spiritual strength, and unconditional love—all of which touched the hearts and lives of Principians for more than 60 years. Those qualities are alive and well, and this building exemplifies the spirit of selfless service and commitment to excellence that Mr. Simon demonstrated. That's why we decided to make an enduring difference in honor of our 50th Reunion through a gift toward the Simon Field House.

What impact does my gift have?

Visible from Clayton Road, Simon Field House will be the first building to greet those entering campus through the west gate by the track and the tennis courts. Everything about the building, from its purpose and function to its architectural features, will exemplify the quality of thought and core values of Principia School. One of the prominent features standing out above the roofline will be an artistic rendering of a sheaf of wheat with a sickle. At night, it will be illuminated and help to light the exterior, visible from a distance both on and off campus. The wheat and sickle emblem is an important image for Principians and aligns with the School’s motto, “As the sowing, the reaping." This illuminated emblem will remind students for generations to come that what we sow and nurture in our thinking is what we produce and reap in life.

Why give?

"Simon Field House is the corner stone of Principia’s future. The opportunity to participate in a project of this scope and depth won’t come along again at Prin for decades… I just couldn’t pass up the invitation to get involved." —Terry McNabb (US’71)

Why are donations needed?

Carey Field House no longer meets the needs of today’s extensive athletics programs. After careful research, it was determined that a new building would be more cost effective than trying to renovate the old one. Hence the decision was made to build. Along with providing up-to-date athletics facilities for male and female student-athletes, Simon Field House will be a resource for all students needing a large, indoor space for activities.
