Principia's IDEA Labs are home for the School's student-centered, STEM-based education. With a wide variety of state-of-the-art tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and software and hardware applications, the labs (one for Upper and Middle School students and a second in Lower School) provide an excellent training ground for tomorrow's innovators, inventors, and problem-solvers. Focusing on hands-on, project-based learning with real-world applications, students explore topics such as alternative and renewable energy, circuitry, computer graphics, digital communication, mechanics and structures, robotics and control technology, scientific data analysis, and software engineering. Regardless of the specific topic, students learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data, utilize the engineering design cycle, and implement collaborative learning strategies. The natural outcome is a greater level of overall technological savvy, productivity, social skills, communication skills, flexibility, and initiative.

Regardless of their career paths, today's students need fluency in the varied dialects of science that allow them to keep pace across the broad spectrum of 21st-century technology trends and advancements.
