The Crandell family has blessed the Principia community for over 40 years, as coaches, educators, mentors, and inspiring role models. Gary Crandell began his coaching career at Principia College, though the bulk of the family’s four decades were spent at the School campus. In that time, Gary and Connie Crandell had a hand in shaping nearly every Principia athletic program. Between Gary and Connie, they coached Football, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Field Hockey, Track, and PE.
Lower School teacher Rachel Crandell’s passionate environmental vision created new vistas for Principia’s students, in and outside of the classroom. Whether she was teaching the view from the rainforest canopy, the perspective of indigenous peoples, or the clash between development and the natural world, Rachel radiated enthusiasm and lived her love for the natural world. Her powerful approach brought sustainability alive decades before it became de rigueur across education, and set Principia’s sights outward, upward, and opened new views of God’s creation.
The Crandell family has been a model for Principia’s teachers, coaches, and students, exuding love, kindness, and a strength that is gentle and joyful. The entire Crandell family is being recognized by this team room.

Why are donations necessary?
Carey Field House no longer meets the needs of today’s extensive athletics programs. Along with providing up-to-date athletics facilities for male and female student-athletes, Simon Field House will be a resource for all students needing a large, indoor space for activities. We are accepting gifts of any size to help join the team that will move Principia athletics forward!
