Description

Alan Rice ('46) is known as the Godfather of American Greco-Roman Wrestling. A two-time state wrestling champion while at the Principia Upper School, Alan Rice went on to win back-to-back Big Ten wrestling titles, and to represent the US at the Pan-American Games and the World Championships in Tokyo. Alan served in the United States Army, and in 1956 competed on the United States Olympic Team at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. He returned to the Olympic stage as the Head Coach of the 1972 US Greco-Roman Wrestling team in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Alan Rice's success and influence in the ring is matched by his business success and philanthropic largesse–he has been a force in supporting his church, fraternal organization, and supporting and expanding training facilities for freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling in the United States. Alan is a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Donations are applied to...

The Rice Wrestling Room is the largest gathering space in the Simon Field House. In addition to being a state-of-the-art training and competition space, it will play host to social events, educational speaking engagements, chapels, and more. As the first and most visible room in the entire complex, this room will be a focal point for student and community activity as long as the Simon Athletic Complex is in use.

Why give?

“Principia wrestling was the best metaphor for life I’ve ever found. Our success was in direct relation to our commitment and our desire to learn.” –Mitch Stock (US’05)

Why are donations necessary?

Carey Field House could no longer meet the needs of today’s extensive athletics programs. Along with providing up-to-date athletic facilities for male and female student-athletes, Simon Field House will be a resource for all students needing a large, indoor space for activities. We are accepting gifts of any size to help join the wave of support that will move Principia Athletics forward!
